Lafayette, IN - Strappy sandals and colorful beach cover-ups may still be top of mind for Lafayette shoppers enduring the hottest month since the Dust Bowl, but local retailers are already planning for the holiday season.

“People still want sandals, but we’ve already started to get boots in,” said Ashley Hunsicker, assistant manager of Englin’s Fine Footwear at Tippecanoe Mall. “The retail season always hits earlier than the regular season does.”

July is the time many retailers start giving their buyers “marching orders,” said Richard Feinberg, a Purdue University consumer sciences and retailing professor.
