How Contra Costa County’s largest Mall is Trying to Innovate in a Changing Retail Landscapeby Annie Sciacca
Concord, CA – One of the East Bay’s largest shopping malls is expanding its offerings to include a big entertainment complex and new food court, reflecting a wave of changes malls are making to keep up with changing shopping trends.
The Sunvalley Shopping Center in Concord has inked a deal with Round 1 Entertainment, an entertainment company that will provide activities including bowling, arcade games, billiards, darts, ping-pong and karaoke in 52,000 square-feet of space that previously belonged to Sports Authority.
The entertainment center is slated to open this summer. It will be the 11 th United States location for Japanese Round 1, which has centers in California, Illinois, Texas, Massachusetts and Washington state. A new food court is slated to open in February at Sunvalley, which includes 1.3 million square-feet of shopping and is anchored by Macy’s.
