Wausau, WI – Despite this week’s news of JCPenney’s impending closure and word about The Gap and Hollister Co.’s plans to shut their doors, a representative of the company that owns the Wausau Center said the mall is on firm footing.

“The health of the mall is good, it’s not indicative of the market,” said Carl Landis, regional marketing director for CBL & Associates Properties Inc. “Same thing with JCPenney. It’s indicative of the company’s strength as a whole. It may be a lower volume store or they may be closing for other reasons, I don’t know what those reasons are.”

Landis said if retailers are going to close stores, this is the time of year they do it.
