Sarasota, FL - A new indoor shopping mall slated to break ground this year near the Sarasota-Manatee line is a strong indication retail is helping lead the way in the area’s ongoing economic recovery, experts say.

The $315 million mall at the University Town Center will host a Macy’s, Dillard’s and Saks Fifth Avenue among 115 other stores and six sit-down restaurants. After nearly 20 years of planning, the 880,000-square-foot shopping hub on University Parkway near Interstate 75 has been slated to open in the fall of 2014.

Commercial real estate analysts said the two-story mall will create a new surge in demand for the already popular University corridor, which has become one the most sought after shopping destinations in Southwest Florida.
