Sioux Falls, SD – Nationwide Black Friday sales didn’t disappoint, with a historic high of $52 billion, and it looks as though local retailers fared just as well.

Lewis Drug, which reported last week that it had lines at many of its Sioux Falls stores before the 6 a.m. opening, also posted record sales for the day and the first hour, said Mark Griffin, president and CEO.

At The Empire Mall, Marketing Manager Jennifer Morrison said many store managers she’s talked with had increases in traffic on Black Friday over last year and some said they also had sales bumps as well.

The staggered starts for retailers across the city might have benefited Lewis, allowing people to hit their opening after going to the mall or Target.
