June 22nd, 2011Ontario Mills will get 10 new stores
Ten new retailers are heading to Ontario Mills, joining a string of recent expansions by existing tenants and upgrades to common areas that are under way now.
Sportswear giants Puma and Under Armour both will open stores in the mall, along with surf wear retailer O’Neill and footwear company Rockport, mall officials said. An Esprit store is scheduled to follow in 2012.
Those all will join Sports Authority, which already was on track to open a store by the end of October. Four other shops — a Lacoste outlet; Elegance Perfumes, a designer perfume outlet; House of Beauty, a salon; and Fanzz, a shop for sports fans — opened in May. And Fossil has split its existing store to add a Watch Station International Outlet.
The changes are expected to create about 200 new jobs.
“It’s a lot of activity, given the economic conditions,” said Marc Smith, general manager of Ontario Mills. Over the past couple of years, 31 stores have opened or expanded in the mall, he said, and more announcements are on the way.
On top of the new deals, Burlington Coat Factory recently expanded into a 120,000-square-foot store, and popular youth apparel retailer Forever 21 is on track to open a larger, 54,000-square-foot store in the mall in July. Aeropostale reopened in May after gutting its Ontario Mills store and expanding into adjacent space.
