Des Moines, Iowa — An Iowa store that started as a mall kiosk soon plants to have 25 stores in just a couple years.

Chocolaterie Stam is a Dutch chocolate-maker that landed in Iowa in 1997. The company is now expanding so fast that it need a bigger building to craft it’s chocolate creations.

In 2001, when Chocolaterie Stam opened its first brick-and-mortar store on Ingersoll Avenue with it’s fancy European flair, some Des Moines chocolate-lovers were hesitant to come in because they thought the prices would be too high.

“My family’s philosophy had always been reasonably price, more volume because it’s a win, win,” said Ton Stam, president of Chocolaterie Stam.

Stam said the company grew from seven stores this year to 10 in three states. There are plans to open another four stores next year and five more the year after that.

“The only thing on the counter that still comes from Holland is the sugar-free,” said Stam.
