April 14th, 2010Sunvalley mall bags 2 new retailers for young women
Sunvalley Shopping Center, in what will likely be a boost for East Bay retail, will add some major new retailers this year and next, including a Forever 21 mega-store at the Concord mall.
The new retailers are XXI — the mega-store for the Forever 21 brand — A’GACI and Jessica McClintock. All these stores cater to young women.
With the additions, Sunvalley mall won’t expand its overall size, the mall’s general manager, Michael Fenley, said.
Still, plenty of construction and upgrades are headed for the mall this year and next within the walls of the center to accommodate the new stores, Fenley said.
“We think this is good news for the consumer, it’s good news for the market in general and for Sunvalley,” Fenley said. “And we think it’s good news for our existing retailers.”
The retailers coming to the mall will occupy 45,000 square feet. They will also likely bring new jobs to Concord.
“Once this is all done, we will clearly have less vacancy than we have now,” Fenley said.
Two of the stores, XXI and A’GACI, will effectively be new mini-anchors for Sunvalley.
XXI intends to occupy a two-story, 23,000-square-foot space between the Macy’s Women’s store and Sears. That store will combine three existing Sunvalley stores — Forever 21, For Love 21 and Heritage 1981, which now occupy a total of 19,000 square feet — into a single, much larger XXI store.
