Stockton, CA – When the economy tanked, families had fewer dollars burning holes in their pockets.
Even those who kept their jobs saw wealth disappear as housing prices plummeted. Further down the economic food chain, retailers took their hit, too.
It was felt in the large retail centers across San Joaquin County. Now that conditions appear to be improving, the big local retail centers are getting ready – albeit carefully – for better days ahead.
Economic indicators in the county seem to be headed in a direction that would be good for retailers in the year to come, said Harry Mavrogenes, a San Joaquin County government official focusing on economic development.
