Rochester Supercenter introduces self-serve kiosk

ROCHESTER — Rochester’s Farmington Road Walmart Supercenter is the retail giant’s first New England store to unveil a new self-serve kiosk for online order pickups.

In recent years, retailers and chains across the country have rolled out changes designed to cut down customers’ wait times and to increase the ease and efficiency of online shopping. Walmart’s new Pickup Towers, 16-foot-by-8-foot self-serve kiosks that hold up to 300 customer packages, are aimed at doing just that, and Rochester shoppers got their first taste of the new system after it debuted Wednesday morning.

“I think the way technology is changing is changing the shape of retail as we know it,” said Brian Malo, manager of the Rochester store. “I think it’s fun and exciting. I look forward to spending a lot time out there with our customers who are using it and getting (their) feedback.”
