Do a review and update of your POS system, making sure it supports your loss prevention policies.
Review procedures for returns, discounts, gift cards and other exceptions and go over them again with employees.
Require a customer signature when processing returns.
Keep track of whether credit card numbers have been entered manually or swiped and the averages for your store and each employee.
Track how many discounts are given at the register and averages per employee.
When you detect inconsistencies, ask questions and listen to the answers. They may give you clues to potential employee theft.
Have bag checks for each employee when they leave work and do not allow purses or personal bags to be stowed near cash registers.
