Lake Compounce in Bristol, CT, is the oldest continuously operating amusement park in North America –and has a formidable retail operation to boot.
Launched in 1846, Lake Compounce, located in Bristol, CT, is New England’s “Family Theme Park.” Open seasonally, mid-May through early- September, the park encompasses 427 acres, with more than 50 rides and attractions, and includes a 20-acre lake and the Crocodile Cove water park. The park employs approximately 1,200 seasonal employees and 45 year-round staff members, and is owned and operated by Palace Entertainment, one of the country’s largest operators of water parks, theme parks and family entertainment centers. Lake Compounce has three main retail outlets, staffed by 40 employees and overseen by Chris Perry, the Manager of Games and Retail.
Snap it Up
The Crocodile Cove Surf Shop, near the water park, went through a complete renovation for the 2013 season. It is stocked with water shoes, towels, sunscreen, cover-ups and swimsuits for adults and kids. It also sells beach-style jewelry and an extensive selection of junior and adult clothing from such lines as Buccaneer Board Riders, Charlie Paige Fashions by Giftcraft and Ocean Minded shoes by Crocs. Updated signage adds to the boutique feel of the store and signs are updated frequently with an on-site vinyl printer.
The Essential Emporium
Before leaving the park, each guest must pass through the Emporium to reach the park exit. Best sellers in this retail location are candy, plush toys and jewelry. Popular lines such as Ty Plush, Barry Owen Toys and Cruz Accessories are creatively displayed with an amusement park theme. Seasonal pass holders receive a reusable shopping bag and 10% off food and retail purchases for the entire season. Retail offerings at Lake Compounce are varied and fun with interesting selections for everyone.
