Pretzel Franchise Round-up

Pretzelmaker

If you are looking for flexibility in terms of location and size of RMU, Pretzelmaker seems to be the ideal fit for a franchisee. “We currently offer our traditional model [400 to 600 square feet] and we also offer non-traditional options such as baking kiosks, non-baking kiosks and satellite kiosks for short-term options,” says Kathleen Shaffer, Director of Strategic Communication for Global Franchise Group, the brand management company behind Pretzelmaker. In addition to Pretzelmaker, Global Franchise Group owns and operates Great American Cookies, Hot Dog on a Stick, Marble Slab Creamery and Maggie Moo’s Ice Cream.

Pretzelmaker locations are spread across the country with high concentration in the Southeast and Northwest. The company’s target consumer demographic is 18 to 24 year olds who live on their own and that means college towns can make for terrific Pretzelmaker locations. “We like potential owners to have some business experience,” Shaffer says, “but it isn’t a requirement. We are looking for open-minded owners who are willing to learn and follow our proven system.”

Pretzelmaker is the second largest pretzel operator in the United States, having merged with Pretzel Time in 2010.

The company is known for its culture of innovation. “We constantly reevaluate our product offerings, pricing and product costs in order to stay on the cutting edge in a competitive industry,” says Shaffer. To that end, Pretzelmaker claims ownership of National Pretzel Day, which falls on April 26 each year. It’s a fun event during which franchises give away a free pretzel to anyone who stops by one of its locations. In 2014 customers who received free pretzels also had the opportunity to donate any amount of their choosing to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Pretzelmaker successfully raised funds and goodwill simultaneously.
